JMU THIRD IN WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

NEW MARKET, Va., Sept. 16, 2006 - Duke University runners finished one-two to lead the Blue Devils to the team title in the James Madison University Women's Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning at the New Market Battlefield.
Emily McCabe easily won the race with a time of 18 minutes 20 seconds on the 5,100-meter course. She was 37 seconds ahead of her teammate Madeline McKeever who was second in 18:57.
Duke finished with 32 points in the team competition followed by Georgetown (42), JMU (53), George Mason (132), and Longwood (134).
Georgetown was led by Jennie Funk who was third in 19:20, followed by JMU senior Dena Spickard (Marion, Va./Marion) who took fourth in 19:39.
Other JMU finishers included junior Michelle Beardmore (Front Royal, Va./Warren County), sixth in 19:48, and sophomore Christy Ward (Midlothian, Va./James River), ninth in 20:04.
