NEW MARKET, Va., Sept. 15, 2007 -- James Madison senior Dena Spickard (Marion, Va./Marion) finished nearly 30 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor as she easily won the individual women's title at the JMU Open Cross Country Meet Saturday morning at the New Market Battlefield.
Spickard completed the 5,100-meter race in a time of 19 minutes, 12.9 seconds. In second place was Georgetown's Kailin Collins with a clocking of 19:40.7.
Ten JMU runners finished in the top 20, including four in the top 10. Sophomore Jessica Propst (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) finished sixth overall and fifth among collegiate runners in 19:58.5. Junior Christy Ward (Midlothian, Va./James River) placed eighth overall in 20:04.1, and junior Aspen Foster (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) took 10th overall in 20:08.1.
Six Georgetown runners placed among the top 10 collegiate runners as the Hoyas compiled 25 points to win the team competition. JMU was second in the nine-team meet with 31 points, followed by Washington & Lee (99) and George Mason (130).
JMU student C.W. Moran, running for the JMU club team, won the men's 8,000-meter race in 25:17.9. He finished nearly 25 seconds ahead of Georgetown's Todd Lumbar, who was timed in 25:42.3. Georgetown won the men's team title.
