KAUAI, HI., Nov. 6, 2008 -- The James Madison University men's golf team finished seventh in the inaugural Kaua'i Collegiate Invitational, held this week at the Puakea Golf Course in Kaua'i, Hawai'i.
Madison fired a 6-under-par 858, and fired three identical rounds of 286.
Seniors Fielding Brewbaker (Salem, Va./Salem) and Tim Driver (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) both finished in the tournament's top 20 overall, as each finished under-par for the Dukes. Brewbaker led JMU with a 6-under-par 210 to finished tied for 10th. He carded rounds of 72, 69 and 69. Driver tied for 19th as he carded rounds of 68, 75 and 70 to finish at 3-under-par.
Freshman Mike Smith (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) fired a 1-over-par 217 to finish tied for 34th. Smith carded a second-round 70 to set a new personal-best.
Junior Michael Meisenzahl (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) carded rounds of 72, 74 and 74 to tie for 45th, while freshman Chris Wellde (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) rounded out the JMU five-man team in 66th place. Wellde fired rounds of 77, 73 and 78 to finish at 12-over-par.
San Diego ran away with the team title with a three-round score of 39-under 825 (286-267-272). UNC Wilmington's Derek Wallace took the individual title after an 8-under 64 on Wednes
