RICHMOND, Va., February 28, 2008 ? The JMU men's tennis team won five of the six singles matches on their way to defeating Richmond 5-2 in non-conference tennis action Thursday.
The Dukes improved to 3-5 on the season with the win.
The Spiders opened up a 1-0 lead after taking two of the three doubles matches. JMU coach Steve Secord played with his doubles rotation, matching sophomore Mike Smith with freshman Jared Robinson and senior Jesse Tarr with freshman Yaroslav Voznenko.
Smith and Robinson won 8-3 but Madison dropped the other two doubles matches to fall behind early.
In singles play though JMU got wins from Tarr (7-6, 6-3), Smith (6-4, 7-6), Robinson (6-1, 6-3), junior Brian Rubenstein (7-6, 6-4) and senior Carlin Campbell (6-3, 6-1) to take the match 5-2.
