HARRISONBURG, Va., April 5, 2008 ? The James Madison men's tennis team improved to 9-9 overall and 2-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 6-1 win over Delaware Saturday.
The Dukes took all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point and five of the six singles point to improve to 1-1 in the CAA round robin that is being held on the campus of JMU this weekend.
Freshman Jared Robinson (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. Stithian's College) improved to 11-6 overall this season with a 6-4, 6-3 win in No. 1 singles over Austin Longacre. He teamed with fellow freshman Yaroslav Voznenko (Kherson, Ukraine/Khescon Tech Lyceum) to win in doubles 8-6.
Seniors Jesse Tarr (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill), and Carlin Campbell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), junior Brian Rubenstein (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) and sophomore Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) all picked up wins in both singles and doubles play for JMU.
Tarr and Smith teamed up to beat Nolan Greenberg and Austin Longacre 8-4 in No. 1 doubles, while Campbell and Rubenstein defeated Jon Schwartz and Andrew Blumberg in No. 2 doubles.
The Dukes will wrap up the CAA round robin, tomorrow with a 12 p.m. match against Hofstra.
