RADFORD, Va., April 8, 2008 ? The JMU men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match at in-state rival Radford on Tuesday. The Dukes got a pair of wins in singles play but dropped the doubles point and the other four singles matches to lose 5-2.
Picking up wins in singles play were senior Carlin Campbell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and freshman Yaroslav Voznenko (Kherson, Ukraine/Khescon Tech Lyceum). Campbell beat Tyler Early 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles match to improve to 7-13 this season. Voznenko won the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-3 over Paul Boslet to run his record to 6-10.
Sophomore Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) pushed James Lloyd to a tiebreaker set but lost 2-4, 6-4, 1-0.
The Highlanders took all three doubles matches including a 9-8 (2) decision Lloyd and Martin Sayer over Smith and senior Jesse Tarr (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) in No. 1 singles. The loss snapped a streak of six straight wins by the doubles pairing.
Next up for JMU is a home match with Georgetown on Thursday.
