NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 6, 2011 - The James Madison (2-2) men's tennis team fell to Colonial Athletic Association foe Old Dominion (7-1) by a score of 5-2 on Sunday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
The Monarchs went up 1-0 after taking two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.
At No. 1 doubles, Tobias Fanselow and Krzysztof Muzalewski defeated junior Bertrand Moulin (Lyon, France/Aux Lazaristes Minimes (Wayne State)) and sophomore Florent Sentenac (Borderes, France/Lycee Theophile Gautier (Auburn Montgomery)) 8-4.
JMU evened it up with ODU in doubles play as senior Matt King (Lorton, Va./Robinson (Old Dominion)) and sophomore Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (UT-Chattanooga)) took an 8-4 victory against Benjamin Chomette and Clay Cypert at No. 2 doubles.
Albert Ochagavia and Alfredo Rodriguez clinched the doubles point for ODU with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles against sophomore Greg Vladimirsky (Coral Springs, Fla./Broward Virtual) and senior Yaroslav Voznenko(Kherson, Ukraine/Kherson Technical).
In singles, ODU won four of six matches, with all being decided in straight sets. Fanselow took down Moulin 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, but Vladimirsky put the Dukes on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Chomette.
Muzalewski won easily at No. 3 singles, with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Sentenac and Ochagavia defeated Pool by a similar score, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. Rodriguez won 6-2, 6-2 over junior Tommi Nissinen (Oulu, Finland/Kastellin Lukio) at No. 5 singles.
Junior Jovan Milic (Belgrade, Serbia/Belgrade Sports School) rounded out the match for JMU with a 7-6, 6-4, 1-0 victory against Cypert at No. 6 singles.
JMU returns to the court on Feb. 19 for a pair of dual matches against St. Bonaventure and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
