HARRISONBURG, Va., April 3, 2013 – The James Madison men's tennis team swept Radford 4-0 to end a three-match losing streak Wednesday afternoon at Hillside Courts. The Dukes improved to 6-9 overall, and the Highlanders fell to 4-10 this season.
JMU blanked Radford in doubles play to take an early 1-0 advantage. Senior Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (Chattanooga)) and freshman Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columbans College) dropped Nicholas Sayer and Thomas Dehaen 8-2 at No. 1 doubles to start the day, and seniors Hugo Ramadier (Paris, France/Lycee Francais Chateabriand (Northern Arizona)) and Florent Sentenac (Borderes, France/Lycee Theophile Gautier (Auburn Montgomery)) claimed the 8-6 win over Stijn Meulemans and Joe Mills at No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point.
Seniors Greg Vladimirsky (Staten Island, N.Y./Broward Virtual) and Bastien Russo (Lyon, France/Notre Dame des Minimes (Shorter)) kept the Dukes perfect with an 8-5 victory over Randall Carter and Javier Waase at No. 3 doubles.
Sentenac continued to roll as he picked up the first JMU singles victory in two sets (6-2, 6-2) over Carter at No. 5 singles. Freshman Maxi Branth (Stockholm, Sweden/Tullinge Gymnasium) followed up with a two-set win (6-4, 6-3) over Waase at No. 6 singles to give the Dukes a 3-0 lead. Vladimirsky ended the day as he took down Dehaen 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
The Dukes next head east for their final conference match of the regular season. They take on Old Dominion on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.
