WOLCOTT, Colo. – The  James Madison women's golf team couldn't put it together in the final round and finished 17th at the 2013 Golfweek Conference Challenge, Sept. 23-25. Hosted by Golfweek, the three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at the Red Sky Golf Club's Fazio Course (Par 72 – 6,272 yards) in Wolcott, Colo.
Under very tough weather conditions, JMU did not have a single player manage to break 80 and finished at 51-over 339 for the day and 985 for the tournament. Pepperdine dominated the field all three days for a 36-shot victory, finishing at 5-over 869, with UC Davis taking runner-up honors at 41-over 905. TCU was third at 46-over 910, with Denver and East Tennessee State tying for fourth at 53-over 917.
Freshman Nicola Haynes was JMU's top finisher, tying for 53rd at 26-over 242 after she led the Dukes in the final round with a 9-over 81. Junior Shabril Brewer was next at 30-over 246 in a tie for 61st, while sophomore Karishma Thiagaraj tied for 66th at 32-over 248. Senior Ginger Mak was one shot back at 33-over 249 in a tie for 68th, while junior Maria Andrea Legaspi placed 84th at 46-over 262. Pepperdine's Grace Na took home individual honors at 6-under 210, two shots ahead of teammate Marissa Chow.
Madison will next be in action Mon.-Tue., Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic at the Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
