RADFORD, Va., April 9, 2014 – James Madison was shut out 4-0 at Radford on Wednesday in non-conference men's tennis action at the Radford University Tennis Complex.
The Highlanders improved to 4-11 overall, while The Dukes dropped to 7-11 with just one match remaining on the regular season schedule.
Radford took two of three matches to clinch the doubles point, and then won the first three completed singles matches to clinch the victory. Play was halted with three singles matches still in progress.
Freshman Brett Moorhead (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) was seeking his fourth-straight win at No. 4 singles, but played in one of the unfinished matches. He won the first set 6-2 over the Highlanders' Aymeric Autones and led the second set 2-1 before play was stopped.
Sophomore Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columbans College) and freshman Miljan Ruzic (Sydney, Australia/St. Euphemia College) teamed up for a win for the Dukes while playing at No. 1 doubles. They cruised to an 8-1 decision over Janken Thoen and Autones. Stirling and Ruzic have won back-to-back matches to improve their record to 12-10.
JMU wraps up the regular season when it hosts Richmond on Saturday. The match is scheduled for noon at the UREC Tennis Courts at University Park.
