WILLIAMSBURG, Va., April 19, 2014 – James Madison's men's tennis season came to a close Saturday with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded UNCW in the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Tournament.
The Dukes, who advanced to the semifinals with a 4-0 win over Drexel on Friday, finished the season at 9-12. The Seahawks improved to 14-6 and advanced to Sunday's championship match against second-seeded College of Charleston.
Freshman Miljan Ruzic (Sydney, Australia/St. Euphemia College) was playing well in a pair of unfinished matches. In singles play he was tied with UNCW's Santtu Leskinen 6-6 in the first set before the team result was clinched. At No. 1 doubles, he and sophomore Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columbans College) trailed Rafael Aita and Sam Williams 6-5 before the doubles point was decided.
The Dukes' nine wins match their season win total from a year ago. They were also a perfect 3-0 at home this season, including a pair of wins over conference opponents.
