WASHINGTON, D.C. – James Madison women's tennis earned the first four points of the day en route to a 5-2 win at George Washington on Sunday, handing the Colonials their first loss of the season (2-1) while improving to 4-1 in spring duals (1-0 CAA).
"Today was a day that we showed improvement," Head Coach James Brycesaid. "We competed from the first point to the last just like we emphasized all week. During the crucial points, we stayed engaged and stuck to our game plan. This shows that we can fully committed we can compete with anyone."
JMU earned the doubles point for a 1-0 lead after going 2-1 in doubles action. Senior Taylor Pinchoffand freshman Dylan Owensopened with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Allison Hansen and Taylor Nederlander before senior Sarah Khanand sophomore Rebecca Harrisfell to Marie-Louise Decamps and Lana Robins 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore duo Rachel Nelsonand Emily Bradshawclinched the first point for the Dukes when they battled to a 7-5 victory over Teodora Radosavljevic and Grace Egger at No. 3 doubles.
Harris gave the Dukes a 2-0 lead with a two-set win (6-2, 6-0) over Egle Jakucianaite at No. 5 singles before a default by Robins to Nelson at No. 2 singles gave JMU a 3-0 advantage.
Owens secured match point for JMU at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Nederlander. Bradshaw secured a fifth point for Madison at No. 6 singles as she rounded out the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Hansen.
The Dukes travel to Liberty on Saturday, February 14 for a 1 p.m. match.
