CHARLOTTE, N.C. – James Madison dropped a heartbreaker in doubles play, and #29 Charlotte used the early momentum to upend the Dukes, 4-0, in women's tennis action Thursday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

The 49ers (18-3) remained unbeaten at home this season, moving to 9-0 in Charlotte, after capturing the doubles point in a tiebreak and registering straight-set singles wins on courts two, three and six.

For the Dukes (9-8), the tandem of
Ariel Avidan and
Daria Munteanu earned a 6-4 win in doubles play against Prisca Abbas and Yalyzaveta Chainykova on court three. Charlotte also had a 6-4 win on court two before claiming doubles with a 7-5 tiebreak win on court one to take the bout, 7-6.

With the lead, Charlotte took opening sets on five of six singles courts. The 49ers doubled their lead to 2-0 on court two, as Sara Suchankova defeated
Brooklyn Hoffmann, 6-1, 6-1. Their lead grew a short time later on court three, where Shona Nakano beat Avidan, 6-2, 6-2.

Charlotte clinched the match on court six, as Chainykova pulled away from
Anna Kantor in a 6-4, 6-1 win.

Elsewhere,
Mia Saveljic won a first-set tiebreak on court four versus Lucia Aranda, Munteanu was in a tight bout on court one with Ni Xi, trailing 4-6, 3-2, while
Sophie Williams was down a set but led the second 3-0 on court five with Abbas.

JMU's is off this weekend before returning to action on Tuesday, April 7 with a trip to Norfolk, Va., to face #63 Old Dominion in a 5 p.m. start.
