ROME, Ga. – James Madison's women's tennis season ended on Friday, as the ninth-seeded Dukes dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 1 Old Dominion in the Sun Belt Conference Championship quarterfinals at the Rome Tennis Center.

The Monarchs (11-5) claimed the doubles point and straight-set singles wins on courts four through six to advance to the conference semifinals.

For the Dukes (12-11), the team of
Daria Munteanu and
Ariel Avidan held a decisive lead that went unfinished in doubles play while both competitors, along with
Mia Saveljic, were in tight bouts on the top three singles courts.

In doubles play, ODU claimed a 6-2 win on court one and a tight 6-4 victory on court three to clinch the 1-0 lead. On court two, Munteanu and Avidan were leading 5-2 over Marina Markina and Uladzislava Manzhos when it went unfinished.

Switching to singles, ODU upped its lead to 2-0, as Markina downed
Anna Kantor, 6-1, 6-3, on court six. The lead grew to 3-0 on court five, where Lidiia Rasskouskaia defeated
Sophie Williams, 6-2, 6-1.

The clinching point occurred on court four, as Manzhos pulled away from
Brooklyn Hoffmann for a 6-4, 6-3 triumph.

On the top three courts, Munteanu was battling #103 Kira Matushkina, with the ODU top singles player with a slight edge (7-6 (9), 3-2). On court two, Saveljic was in a third set with Victoria Matasova, with Matasova leading (3-6, 6-2, 3-0), while court three saw Avidan close within Ulyana Romanova (7-6 (5), 2-2).
