ELON, N.C. – James Madison women's tennis tallied a tough 4-3 loss at Elon on Saturday, snapping a three-match win-streak for the Dukes as they fell to 8-4 on the season and 1-1 against Colonial Athletic Association foes.
The Phoenix, in their first year of competition in the CAA, improved to 2-0 in league action and 9-5 overall. While the Dukes opened with a 2-1 showing in doubles play for the point, the Phoenix won the first four singles decisions for the match victory.
"We started well and finished well today," Head Coach James Brycestated. "Our doubles is now turning into our strength, but we came out flat in singles, making too many errors that dug us a hole we couldn't climb out of. If we can improve on that, I feel confident going forward in CAA play."
JMU headed into singles action with a 1-0 advantage after a 2-1 mark in doubles play. The senior-sophomore duo of Taylor Pinchoffand Alex Huiedropped Barbora Lazarova and Kirsten Ward 8-5 at No. 1 doubles to start the day, but an 8-3 win by Taylor Casey and Erica Braschi over sophomores Rachel Nelsonand Emily Bradshaw at No. 3 doubles knotted the action at 1-1.

JMU fell behind 3-1 after freshman Dylan Owensfell in straight 6-2 sets to Braschi at No. 4 singles.
