James Madison Finishes 15th at Web.com Intercollegiate

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The James Madison women's golf team could not make up any ground on the field and finished 15th at the 2015 Web.com Intercollegiate, March 30-31. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Jacksonville University, was played at Marsh Landing Country Club (Par 72 – 5,967 yards) in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Dukes were unable to put together the round they had hoped for in shooting a 22-over 310 and finishing the tournament at 58-over 922. No. 32 Miami (Fla.) took home the team title with a 54-hole total of 13-under 851, defeating No. 43 Texas Tech by five shots as the Red Raiders were at 8-under 856. No. 36 Florida State was third at 3-under 861, with No. 41 Ohio State finishing at even-par 864. Illinois rounded out the top five teams at 13-over 877.
Freshman Laura Gomez-Ruiz finished as the top Madison golfer, tying for 25th at 4-over 220 following a final-round 3-over 75. Senior Shabril Brewer tied for 65th at 13-over 229, while junior Kelsey Solan was two shots back of Brewer at 15-over 231 in a tie for 69th. Junior Rachel Walker placed 94th at 26-over 242, with a 7-over 79 in the last 18. Freshman Gabrielle Weiss was 95th at 40-over 256, with senior Nikola Wessels, playing as an individual, in 96th at 43-over 259.
Delfina Acosta of Miami (Fla.) won the medalist race at 10-under 206, four shots ahead of Matilda Castren of Florida State at 6-under 210.
JMU will be back in action Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12 at the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate at River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, North Carolina.
