Cole, Henderson Lead Dukes To Bash At The Beach Invite Title

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Junior Ryan Cole and freshman Alex Henderson took the top-two spots to lead the James Madison men's golf team to a first-place finish at the 35th annual Bash at the Beach Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Surf, Golf and Beach Club.
The Dukes successfully defended their title after winning the 2015 event. This is the third team title for JMU during the 2015-16 season following victories at the 2015 VCU Shootout and the 2015 Maryland Terrapin Invitational during the fall.
Cole (-8, 1st) earned the title of tournament champion after carding a 4-under par 67 in the third round, matching his under-par score from rounds one and two. He, too, defended his individual title after leading the winning the 2015 tournament.
Henderson (-5, T-2nd) wasn't far behind, earning runner-up status after moving up 11 spots up the leaderboard thanks to a career-best 65 on Tuesday. His 208 for the tournament is also a career best, beating out his previous record of 213 at the ODU/OBX Collegiate in the fall.
The Dukes stood atop the 19-team, 111-golfer field, surpassing second-place Arkansas State by 15 strokes.
Also competing for JMU was sophomore Jack Floydd (-2, 7th), junior Poom Pattaropong (+3, T-18th) and sophomore Matt Cowgill (+6, T-32nd). The team's 291-272-276 - 839 is the best team mark of the season.
Redshirt freshman Shota Ozaki (+5, T-26th) and redshirt junior Connor Walters (+6, T-32nd) led the golfers playing as individuals with senior Chris Kapsak (+8, T-43rd) close behind.
The Dukes return to the course Friday-Sunday, March 11-13 for the Florida State-hosted 2016 Seminole Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla.
