WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – In a rematch of the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association women's tennis title match, No. 43 William & Mary secured a 6-1 win over James Madison.
The Tribe (7-8, 2-1 CAA) earned the doubles point with a 2-1 split against the Dukes (9-5, 1-1 CAA). Though William & Mary clinched the point with the first two decisions, the teams played on as freshman Jona Roka and junior Dylan Owens won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
William & Mary won the first three decisions in singles to secure match point before Roka won her second match of the day with a two-set win over Natalia Perry at No. 3 singles. The freshman has won six of her last seven singles matches.
Despite losses, both sophomore Emma Petersen and junior Kimmy Herrock went the full three-set distance in their singles matches at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JAMES BRYCE
"I credit William & Mary for playing better than us today. Overall, this is the closest match we have had with the Tribe in the last three years. We are improving all aspects of our game, though we are still learning to how to execute in the crucial moments. We get a chance to play at home now for the next few weeks, which will be great heading into the CAA tournament."
