HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison men's tennis improved to 9-6 this spring with a pair of home victories against Duquesne, 4-3, and Norfolk State, 6-1.
The Dukes' win over DU came down to a marathon final singles decision. Freshman Tate Steinour came from behind at the No. 6 position to take down Dane Bendel in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to claim the personal win and team win.
Steinour clinched the team win again in the second match, taking down Agustin Carrizo in two sets (6-2, 6-4) at No. 5 singles. The freshman went a combined 4-0 on Saturday, as did his doubles partner and fellow freshman Paul Mendoza.
