HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis squashed Richmond 4-3 at home on Wednesday afternoon in a Commonwealth clash at Hillside Courts.
The doubles point proved to be the decisive tally for the Dukes (13-5) against the Spiders (4-10) as the two teams evenly split singles decisions 3-3.
Freshman Jona Rokaplayed a role in both the doubles-point clinch and the match-point clinch. She teamed up with junior Dylan Owensfor a 7-6(3) win over Dessislava Zlateva and Lea Owens at No. 3 doubles to complete the JMU comeback for the opening point. She also powered through at No. 4 singles to take a 6-2, 7-6(4) victory over Kiana Marshall to secure match point.
Senior Timea Guibe also went 2-0 on Wednesday, teaming up with junior Kimmy Herrock for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles before sinking Zlateva 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
FIRST TO 20
With their singles victories against Richmond, Guibe and Roka both reached the 20-win mark in singles for the overall season. Roka leads the Dukes in dual singles triumphs at 14-4 while Guibe is just behind at 12-5, including an 11-3 mark at the top position.
