WILMINGTON, N.C. – James Madison women's tennis cruised to its fifth straight victory, continuing its best start in program history, following a 6-1 triumph at
UNCW on Saturday afternoon at the
UNCW Tennis Complex.
The Dukes moved to 16-1 overall and 3-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Seahawks fell to 1-10 and 0-2 in conference play.
JMU captured the doubles point after a pair 6-2 victories from freshman
Anna Makarova and junior
Emma Petersen at No. 2 doubles and sophomore
Jona Roka and senior
Dylan Owens at the No. 3 position. A 7-6 (5) victory at No. 1 from the freshman duo of
Liz Norman and
Abby Amos secured the doubles sweep for JMU.
Holding a 1-0 lead,
Roka easily dispatched
UNCW's Maddy Muller-Hughes in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) at No. 2 singles to increase the Dukes' lead to 2-0. Following

Diane Flament raced past Lea
Dubois-Rebiere at No. 5 (6-3, 6-1) to give JMU a commanding 3-0 advantage. At No. 2 singles
Makarova used a straight-set victory of her own (6-2, 6-2) over
Xandra Fougner to clinch match point for the second consecutive match.
With the match clinched, Norman continued her undefeated dual campaign with a 6-2, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (10-5) victory at No. 1 to improve to 16-0. Petersen used a come-from-behind win at No. 4 singles (5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8)) to cap off the 6-1 victory.
