HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis was unable to overcome early deficits, falling 5-2 to visiting Penn State on Saturday evening at the East Campus Tennis Courts.
The Dukes fell to 1-3 on the year, while the Nittany Lions improved to 3-3.
Daria Afanasyeva and
Kylie Moulin gave the Dukes an early advantage in doubles, winning 6-1 on court two over Olivia Ryan and Yvonna Zuffova. However, Penn State grabbed the 1-0 match lead after picking up a 6-3 win on court three and a close 7-5 victory on court one.
In singles play, JMU tied the match at 1-1, as
Kylie Moulin won her second match of the day, defeating Gabrielle O'Gorman in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
The Nittany Lions proceeded to pick up three straight wins on courts one, two and four to clinch the match.
The other victory for the Dukes came by way of
Daniela Voloh on court six, as she quickly dispatched Ryan, 6-1, 6-2.
