CLEMSON, S.C. – James Madison women's tennis lost in nail-biting fashion to #57 Clemson, 4-3, early Sunday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
The Dukes fell to 8-10, while the Tigers improved to 10-9.
Doubles play saw the Dukes win two of the three matches to grab the early lead. On court three,
Kylie Moulin and
Amanda Nord earned a 6-3 victory over Jenna Thompson and Lana Sipek.
JMU earned the doubles point on court one. After Clemson tied the match at four,
Daniela Voloh and
Michelle Los Arcos won the final two games for a 6-4 triumph against Cristina Mayorova and Daniella Medvedeva.
Clemson came out hot in singles play, winning the first three matches on courts one, two, and five in straight sets for a 3-1 lead.
Daria Afanasyeva got one back for the Dukes by winning her match on court three, as she defeated Medvedeva, 6-4, 6-4.
Nord squared the match at three apiece with a hard-fought victory over Sipek. After splitting the first two sets, she powered her way to a 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-2, win.
The team victory would come down to the final match on court four. Voloh took the first set over Ali DeSpain but was unable to put her away. Despain earned the comeback win for the Tigers in a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 decision.
