HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison battled closely for the most part with Charlotte, but a late surge pushed the 41st-ranked 49ers to a 4-0 victory on Thursday morning at Hillside Courts.
The 49ers improved to 19-5 on the year, while the Dukes fell to 11-6 in their non-conference finale.
The loss ended a five-match win streak for the Dukes and was also the first setback at home, as they're now 6-1 between Hillside and East Campus Tennis Courts.
Charlotte opened the match claiming the double point with a pair of victories, later adding a trio of straight-set triumphs in singles play. For JMU, two players gained a set advantage in singles before their bouts went unfinished.

Doubles Play
- Charlotte gained the advantage with victories on courts three and one, while the bout on court two went unfinished.
- The duo of Lucie Petruzelova and Emma Wilkins took a 6-2 decision from Daria Afanasyeva and Reka Matko.
- The 49ers clinched the doubles point on court one, as the 89th-ranked team of Lucia Quiterio and Margaux Maquet pulled away for a 6-4 win versus Kylie Moulin and Ines Oliveira.
- The match on court two, featuring Charlotte's Kaavya Sawhney and Ruxi Schech against JMU's Daria Munteanu and Daniela, went unfinished with the 49ers' pair leading 5-4.
Singles Play
- The match was tightly contested early on, with each team initially going a set up on two courts apiece while two others were tied at 4-4 in the opening frame.
- The 49ers extended the lead on court six, where Lucia Arana beat Hope Moulin, 6-1, 6-3.
- Charlotte moved the advantage to 3-nil on court four, as Petruzelova rallied in both sets for a 6-4, 6-4 victory versus Oliveira.
- The team win for the 49ers was secured on court two, where Quiterio used a tight first-set win to outlast Afanasyeva, 6-4, 6-2.
- Kylie Moulin was nearing victory on court one, as her contest with Schech went unfinished at 6-3, 5-5.
- On court three Voloh fell in a first-set tiebreak against Maquet, 7-3, but led 1-0 in the second set.
- Finally on court five, Munteanu split sets with Wilkins, as their matched ended at 6-3, 3-6, 1-2 unfinished.
