HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall turned in a strong performance, winning the doubles point and claiming five singles courts in straight sets to hand James Madison a 6-1 loss in Sun Belt Conference women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center.
The Thundering Herd improved to 18-7 on the year and 8-2 in Sun Belt play, wrapping up the No. 2 seed for next week's Sun Belt Conference Championship. The loss dropped the Dukes to 8-12 on the spring and 4-6 in league matches.
The Dukes await all conference matches to conclude to find out its seed for next week's tournament.
Highlighting JMU's day in Huntington was
Reka Matko, who earned a straight-set triumph on court five. She and
Hope Moulin were also leading 5-4 on court three when their match was abandoned due to a doubles clinch.
However, Marshall won the other five courts in straight sets to earn the team victory.

Doubles Play
- The team of Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane earned a 6-2 win over Cate Broerman and Alexandra Prudente on court two.
- A short while later, Marshall clinched the doubles point on court one, where Johanna Strmo and Emma Vanderheyden downed Daria Munteanu and Ines Oliveira, 6-2.
- Matko and Moulin had also rallied to take a 5-4 lead when their match with Gabrielle Clairotte and Doroteja Joksovic went unfinished on three.
Singles Play
- All six bouts would conclude in straight sets, with just one frame going to a tiebreak.
- MU took a 2-0 lead when Rieke Gillar cruises past Prudente on court six, 6-1, 6-0.
- The lead grew to three-love on court four, as Hurrion defeated Moulin, 6-1, 6-4.
- Vanderheyden clinched the win for Marshall on court two, as she downed Oliveira, 6-2, 6-4.
- Marshall also got wins on courts three and one, as Joksovic earned a 6-2, 6-2 win against Broerman and Strom registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Munteanu.
- JMU got on the board on the final court, as Matko overcame a first-set deficit and had a strong second to beat McGrane on court five, at 7-6 (3), 6-2.
