BOONE, N.C. – Sidney Walters led James Madison cross country with a career-best 6K time of 21:43.9 for fourth at App State's Firetower Project Run on Friday evening.

JMU tallied 122 points (4-12-27-37-42) for sixth out of 12 teams, with six Dukes notching personal bests. William & Mary took home the team title with 37 points (1-3-6-9-18), followed by App State (2nd – 81), Milligan (3rd – 103), College of Charleston (4th – 110) and Radford (5th – 121). Perry Irons of William & Mary captured the individual victory in 20:49.2.

Taylor Myers crossed the finish line in 22:07.3 for 12th, followed by Carol-Anne Garrett (27th – 22:28.6) and Faith Ford (37th – 22:44.9). Izzy Greene (43rd – 22:50.3) and Elizabeth Scarpa (22:54.7) rounded out the scoring five.

"I am very pleased with our team's effort and performance today. We had six lifetime bests. Sidney Walters led our team with a phenomenal fourth-place finish and a 52-second PR. Taylor Myers had another stellar meet after her win last week, moving up throughout the race from 47th to 12th. Carol-Anne Garrett had a breakthrough race, breaking her personal best by two minutes and 38 seconds and scoring critical team points as our third team finisher and 27th overall. Faith Ford was our next runner, also running a big career-best of two minutes and eight seconds. Izzy Greene also had a great race, finishing as our fifth runner and running a lifetime best by a minute and 22 seconds. Lizzie Scarpa had a strong 6k debut and Sarah Cestare rounded out the varsity squad with a strong race."

How It Happened

The Dukes' top-five finishers posted an average time of 22:23 with a spread of 1:06.
Meanwhile, the top seven remained relatively close with a 22:35 average and 1:38 spread.
Last time JMU competed in a 6K race, the Dukes averaged 23:32.58 per runner at last year's NCAA Southeast Regional on Nov. 15 in Rock Hill, S.C.
Previously, Walter's 6K PR was 22:35.5 at Virginia's XC23 College & Open Pre-Nationals on Oct. 14, 2023.
