ORLANDO, Fla. – James Madison track & field kicked off the outdoor season with a strong showing at UCF's Black and Gold Invitational on Friday at the UCF Track and Field Complex.
Jaiden Martellucci highlighted the opener with a career-best hammer throw of 47.30m (155-2), placing her fifth in program history. Her performance comes after closing the indoor season with a fifth-place effort of 16.52m (54-2.5) in the weight throw at the ECAC Indoor Championships – good for fourth in the JMU record book.
Erica Moolman started her outdoor campaign with a height of 3.70m (12-1.5) in the pole vault for eighth.
Sofia Terenziani finished the 1,500 meters in 4:40.09, her best time in the event since running 4:36.10 at the 2022 ECAC Outdoor Championships. Freshman
Kylie Brooks followed closely behind with an effort of 4:46.67. Elsewhere on the track, classmate
Izzy Greene took ninth in the 5,000 meters in 17:49.64.
Action in Orlando will continue tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. with the women's discus.
