HARRISONBURG, Va. – Despite winning the doubles point and gaining the early lead, James Madison couldn't hang on, as #74 Georgia Southern was able to put together four singles victories, including three in straight sets, to defeat the Dukes 4-1 in Sun Belt Conference men's tennis action on Sunday afternoon at Hillside Courts.

The Eagles (12-6, 3-1 Sun Belt) produced singles wins on courts three through six to overcome the early deficit.

JMU (5-8, 0-3 Sun Belt) took the early 1-0 lead after a comeback in doubles play. GS gained the advantage with a 6-1 win on court three before the team of Zach Fleishman and Edson Sanchez evened things up with a crucial 6-4 win on court two versus Pierre Mouesca and Dimitris Paliouras.

On court one, Esteve Agusti and Aurelien Schmitt trailed 4-1 before rallying back to take the lead, at 6-5. The Eagles forced a tiebreak, and in the race to seven, JMU broke a pair of GS serves to lead 5-2. A few points later, the Dukes put it away for the 7-4 tiebreak to clinch the doubles point at 7-6 (4).

In singles play, it was nearly even for much of the opening set across the courts, but GS began to pull away, rallying on two courts to take first sets on five courts.

Mouesca tied the match at 1-1 on court four, as he raced past Sanchez, 6-0, 6-1. The Eagles took the lead, at 2-1, on court three, as Aaron James Williams used a pair of breaks in the first set to take control and down Agusti, 7-5, 6-2.

The lead stretched to 3-1 for GS over on court five, as Laurent Julia Calac didn't concede a game in his third set to beat Dennis Wiebe, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0. The decisive point for Georgia Southern came on court six, where Milan Ristov pulled away in the second set to earn a 6-2, 6-3 triumph against Harrison Lee.

JMU opens a three-match road trip on Saturday, March 29 when it travels to Troy for an 11 a.m. ET (10 a.m. CT) matchup in Troy, Ala.
