KANSAS CITY, Mo. – James Madison women's soccer forward
Ginny Lackey was named to the 2025 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday afternoon.
Lackey becomes the sixth student-athlete in program history to be named to the inaugural list for the award, joining Kim Germain (2008), Cate Tisinger (2008), Corky Julien (2009), Teresa Rynier (2010) and Alexandra Blom (2023).
The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by voting of Division I head coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
Last season, Lackey became the first Duke to be named a semifinalist for the award after tallying the 13
th 30-point season in program history with 34 points. The sophomore earned Sun Belt Conference Player and Freshman of the Year honors last season, scoring 12 goals and 10 assists, respectively ranking ninth and tied for eighth in program single-season history. Her honors from a season ago also included being named the first JMU All-American since 2010, earning third team honors from United Soccer Coaches while also being named to TopDrawerSoccer's Freshmen All-American First Team.
To begin this season, Lackey was named the Sun Belt Preseason Offensive Player of the Year as well as joining three other Dukes on the All-Sun Belt Preseason Team. Additionally, United Soccer Coaches recognized her as a Forward to Watch ahead of the campaign.
The Dukes open their season at NC State on Thursday, Aug. 14. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra with kick off scheduled for 7 p.m.
