Erin Bryce joined the James Madison University women's tennis coaching staff in July 2014.
“I am thrilled to be a new member of the Dukes family,” Erin Bryce said. “JMU athletics has a long heritage of excellence. I am looking forward to carrying on that tradition and helping to build on the program’s success.”
In 2016-17, JMU went 17-8 in duals, marking the second consecutive year the Dukes reached the 15-win mark. They finished the season ranked ninth in the Atlantic Region by the ITA and, after graduating three seniors, signed the 16th-best mid-major class for the 2017-18 year.
A first-ever CAA title match appearance highlighted the 2015-16 season. JMU finished the year at 18-7, the most wins in a single season since going 20-4 in 1989-90.
The 2014-15 season saw JMU, seeded fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament, advance to the semifinal round with a 4-0 win over fourth-seeded UNCW. The Dukes finished with a 14-8 overall record.
Bryce served as the volunteer assistant coach at Mississippi State for the 2013-14 season. Prior to her time with the Bulldogs, she spent four seasons (2009-13) as the volunteer assistant coach for Saint Leo University and helped propel the Lions from an unranked program to a top-10 national ranking. She also taught tennis at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton, N.Y. during the summer while she was a coach at Saint Leo.
Her first coaching position came in 2008 at the University of West Alabama, where she was the assistant coach for both cross country and tennis until 2009.
“I am really excited to have Erin join our staff here at JMU,” James Bryce stated. “She brings a wealth of experience and intensity to the program. As a two-sport athlete in college, she understands the balance our student-athletes need, but will also continue to push them to be better both on and off the court. Erin’s commitment to the development of the student-athlete is one of her biggest strengths, and I look forward to working with her.”
Erin Bryce played No. 1 singles and doubles tennis and ran cross country at the University of Tampa. The tennis program was ranked in the top 25 nationally during her time with the Spartans while the cross country program ranked in the top 10 nationally.
A two-time Academic All-American, she earned a bachelor’s degree in government and world affairs from Tampa in 2007. She also holds a Master of Arts in Teaching for social science, grades 6-12, from West Alabama.
