WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 29, 2007 - The James Madison University men's tennis team traveled to George Washington on Friday and were defeated 5-2.
Sophomore Brian Rubenstein (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) earned the singles victory for JMU after defeating Maxx Wattenberg 6-2, 6-2.
In the doubles portion of the match, the Dukes swept George Washington after winning all three matches. Senior John Snead (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) and junior Jesse Tarr (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) defeated Sam Salyer and Brandon Harris 8-4.
Junior Carlin Campbell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) teamed with freshman Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) to defeat Mustafa Genscoy and Ryan Hunter 9-8 (7-4).
The tandem of Rubenstein and senior Brian Clay (Chantilly, Va./Westfield) finished the doubles sweep by defeating Daniel Blake and Elliot Daniels 8-2.
The men will return to competition Feb. 11 when they travel to William and Mary.
