RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 18, 2008 -- The JMU men's tennis team fell 5-0 to the No.31 VCU Friday to open their spring schedule.
In their first action since October the Dukes failed to win a set against the Rams losing all five matches in two sets.
Senior Jesse Tarr (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) took on Damien Lacombe in the top-match losing 6-2, 6-3. In other action, Alex Israel defeated junior Brian Rubenstein 6-2, 6-2 and Sebastien Ripoll beat junior Chris Armes, 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Jared Robinson (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. Stithians College) made his JMU debut taking on Emil Lindgren, but lost 6-1, 7-5.
In the doubles match, sophomore Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) and senior Carlin Campbell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) lost to Thibaut Charron and Bobo Delemark 7-5, 6-0.
JMU will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. to take on East Carolina. They will take on Temple at 4 p.m. in their final match of the invitational.
