McLEAN, Va., Jan 25, 2008 ? The JMU men's tennis team dropped a non-conference road match 5-2, Friday to George Washington. The Dukes got a win from junior Brian Rubenstein (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) over Maxx Wattenberg, winning 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).
The Dukes also took the doubles point winning two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) and senior Jesse Tarr (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) started things off with a 8-2 win. Also winning was a pair of freshman making their doubles debut, Jared Robinson (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. Stithians) and Yaroslav Voznenko (Kherson, Ukraine/Khescon Tech. Lyceum) defeated Mustafa Gencsoy and Maxx Wattenberg 8-5.
In singles play however, the Colonials took over winning five of six matches. Yan Levinski won a hard fought match over Smith, winning in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 11-9.
Next up for the Dukes is a trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., where they will take on the Tar Heels in non-conference action.
