FARMVILLE, Va., Mar. 21, 2009 ? The James Madison men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Longwood, 4-3 on Saturday.
The Dukes fell to 4-11, while the Lancers improved to 7-4.
JMU picked up a win at No. 1 singles as junior Matt King (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) teamed with sophomore Matt King (Lorton, Va./Robinson) to beat Billy Heird and Milo Barajas-Alexander 8-2. Longwood answered though, winning at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to claim the doubles point.
The teams split singles play as JMU got wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 4. Smith dropped Brandon Lindsley 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, while sophomore Jared Robinson (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. Stithians) took a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 1 and senior Brian Rubenstein (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) beat Heird 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4.
JMU returns to the court on Sunday as they will host Norfolk State for a 1:30 p.m. match.
