NORFOLK, Va., February 12, 2012 - The James Madison men's tennis team fell to Old Dominion today 4-3 to open Colonial Athletic Association play. With the loss the Dukes fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in CAA competition. The Monarchs improved to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the CAA.
Kryzysztof Muzalewski and Wesley Barrett got the ball rolling for Old Dominion in the No.2 doubles position when they beat Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/UT-Chattanooga/Braemar) and Florent Sentenac (Borderes, France/Auburn Montgomery/Lycee Theophile Gautier) 8-6. Greg Vladimirsky (Coral Springs, Fla./Broward Virtual) and Bertrand Moulin (Lyon, France/Wayne State/Aux Lazaristes Minimes) evened up doubles play for the Dukes, defeating Albert Ochagavia and Can Cetinel in No. 1 doubles 8-6. ODU, however, captured the doubles point when Carlos Lopez Villa and Alfredo Rodriguez topped Hugo Ramadier (Rome, Italy/Northern Arizona/Lycee Francais Chateabriand) and Tommi Nissinen (Oulu, Finland/Kastellin Lukio) 8-6 in No. 3 doubles.
Ramadier knotted things up at 1-1, defeating Fahoum Fahoum 6-3, 6-2 in the No.4 singles match.
Lopez Villa put the Monarchs back on top after he beat Moulin 7-6(5), 6-1 in No.3 doubles before Vladimirsky pulled JMU even at 2-2 by topping Muzalewski 6-3, 6-4 in No.1 singles.
Ochagavia put ODU ahead to stay by beating Pool in the No.2 doubles position 6-3, 7-6(4).
The Monarchs clinched the match after Barrett defeated Nissinen in No.5 singles 6-1, 6-0. Florent Sentanac grabbed the Dukes' second point defeating Rodriguez 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 to finish the match.
Madison returns to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 25 against Christopher Newport in Greensboro, N.C.
