Men's Tennis Edges Georgia Southern 4-3

GREENVILLE, N.C., Feb. 8, 2014 – The James Madison men's tennis team won four singles matches on its way to a 4-3 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday. The match was played at East Carolina's ECU Indoor Tennis Center.

JMU improved its spring season dual record to 2-1 with the win, while Georgia Southern remained winless, dropping to 0-6.

The Dukes took the top three singles matches, including Robert Stirling's (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columban's College) three-set win over Oliver Webb in the No. 1 spot. After dropped the first set 6-4, Stirling bounced back with 6-4 and 6-2 wins.

At No. 2 singles, freshman Sebastian Salinas (Merida, Mexico/Preparatoria Abierta SEP) topped Albert Codina Sala in straight sets. Salinas took the first set 6-3 and clinched the match with a 6-4 win in the second set.

Freshman Miljan Ruzic (Sydney, Australia/St. Euphemia College) had to bounce back from a tough 6-5 loss in the first set at No. 3 singles. He responded with 6-2 and 6-4 wins in the final two sets to edge Nico DeGroof.

Maxi Branth (Stockholm, Sweden/Tullinge Gymnasium) rounded out the Dukes' winners in singles play, cruising to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Christian Kerrigan at No. 5 singles. Branth improved to 12-5 on the year.

Ruzic and Stirling teamed up for JMU's lone doubles win. The pair eased past Kyle Hoffman and Rafael Racy 6-1.

JMU continues play at East Carolina on Sunday when the Dukes take on the host Pirates at 11 a.m.
