RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior
Emma Petersen rolled past NC State's Amanda Rebol 6-3, 6-0 to claim her 78th career singles victory, placing her atop the program's career singles wins list.
Petersen's win was her seventh of the spring season, along with her sixth consecutive and stood as the lone point for James Madison women's tennis, who dropped its third consecutive match, in a 6-1 decision to NC State at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on Saturday evening.
The Dukes fell to 4-4 on the spring season, while the Wolfpack improved their record to 8-2.
NC State got going early after two 6-1 doubles decisions at No.'s 2 and 3 gave them a 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, the Wolfpack refused to let up, winning four consecutive matches in straight sets to earn match point at 4-0 and then improve their advantage to 5-0 minutes later.
Petersen's triumph put the Dukes on the board, before Claudia Wiktorin closed the afternoon and the 6-1 result with a straight-set win of her own at No. 6.
QUOTING HEAD COACH SHELLEY JAUDON
"What a deserving accomplishment for Emma. She has been an absolute warrior for this team throughout her career and I'm so proud that she will graduate as the singles wins leader. I look forward to seeing how she will continue to build on this legacy the remainder of the season."
