CHARLOTTE, N.C. – James Madison women's tennis had a tough test with #23 Furman on Saturday afternoon and fell 4-1 in a hotly-contested matchup at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex on the campus of UNC Charlotte.
The Paladins moved to 10-5 on the year, while the Dukes dropped to 7-8.
Furman grabbed the early 1-0 lead by taking two of three doubles matches.
JMU gained an early advantage on court three, as
Kylie Moulin and
Amanda Nord took down Jess Dawson and Maggie Pate, 6-1.
After Furman took a 6-1 win on court one by the 24th-ranked doubles tandem of Julia Adams and Ellie Schoppe, the doubles point would be decided in a close match on court two.
The Paladins claimed the point after #34 Madison Dillon and Ellie Schulson fended off
Hope Moulin and
Natalia Nikolopoulou, 7-5.
In singles play, the Paladins quickly took a 2-0 lead after Adams, the nation's 51st-ranked singles player won in straight sets.
Kylie Moulin got JMU on the board with a come-from-behind triumph on court two. After dropping the first set by winning just one game, she rallied past Schoppe for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 win. It was Kylie's eighth-straight singles victory, as she moved to 18-4 during the 2021-22 season.
Furman extended its lead to 3-1 on court four, as Sara Snyder overcame a late push from
Hope Moulin, winning the match by scores of 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
The Paladins clinched the match on court five when Schulson downed Nord, 6-0, 6-7 (6), 6-1.
When the match concluded, JMU held leads in matches on courts three and six.
Daria Afanasyeva was just ahead of Dillon, 4-6, 6-2, 3-2, while
Lynelle Lim was up a set on Dawson, at 7-5, 5-5.
