WALLACE, N.C. - Sophomore
Amelia Williams earned her first collegiate individual victory and redshirt sophomore
Kendall Turner carded the lowest round in program history on Tuesday, as the pair led the James Madison women's golf team to the team title at the River Landing Classic, hosted by UNCW at the par-72, 6,026-yard River Landing River Course.
Â
The Dukes, who took home their second team trophy of the season against a strong 14-team field, erased a six-shot deficit on the back nine with a final-round 285 (-3), staving off a charge from second-place East Carolina to finish at 866 (+2) for the week as ECU carded 867 (+3). JMU's final round is tied for the third-lowest in program history, the final 866 is the second lowest 54-hole score ever.
Â
Williams took home the first collegiate medal of her young career with a consistent performance, shooting 72-69 on Monday's two rounds to take the individual lead. On Tuesday, she rebounded from back-to-back bogeys with four straight birdies down the stretch to post a final-round 70 (-2) and seal the win at 211 (-5), two shots ahead of second place.
Â
Turner posted a remarkable turnaround of her own after shooting 71-79 on the opening day, as she closed her week with a bogey-free 66 (-6) that marked the lowest single round in program history, surpassing a 67 (-5) from Williams at last year's ECU Easter Invitational. The performance vaulted her 25 spots up the 78-player leaderboard and into a tie for third on the week at 216 (E).
Â
 Freshman
Tatum Walsh picked up her second top-20 finish in a row, tying for 16th on the week at 74-72-74 (+4). Redshirt junior
Kate Owens (74-71-83) tied for 46th on the week, while senior
Carly Lyvers (79-78-75) capped the JMU scoring with a crucial final round that lifted her into a tie for 59th.
