Agusti Wins Twice, Dukes Fall 4-1 to Coastal

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Esteve Agusti combined for two wins for James Madison, but Coastal Carolina rallied for the doubles point and won three singles bouts to down the Dukes, 4-1, on Friday afternoon in Sun Belt Conference men's tennis action at Hillside Courts.

The Chanticleers (6-7, 2-1 Sun Belt) overcame a pair of match points and won the doubles point in tiebreak fashion for the early 1-0 lead. After CCU took court two by a 6-2 margin, Agusti and Aurelien Schmitt powered past Iannis Fernandes Christopher Norlin, 6-3, on court one.

On court three and leading 5-4, JMU (5-7, 0-2 Sun Belt) had a pair of match points that were staved off by Coastal, and the Chants eventually took the bout 7-6 (7-1) in a tiebreak.

In singles play, each team won opening sets on three courts to keep the match tight.

CCU doubled its lead to 2-0 on court one, where Norlin pulled away from Schmitt for a 6-3, 6-0 win. The Chanticleers moved the lead to 3-0 on court four, as Jack Dixon downed Edson Sanchez, 6-2, 6-2.

Agusti was in a close matchup in his bout with Curzio Manucci on court three, and with the third set all square at 4-4, Agusti broke Manucci's serve and held his own to earn the victory, at 6-1, 0-6, 6-4.

Coastal clinched the match on court five, as Emiliano Gonzalez rallied back from a set down, conceding just two games over the final two sets to upend Dennis Wiebe, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.

JMU was also battling in third sets in two other matches, as Zach Fleishman was down just a single game on court two (4-6, 6-1, 2-3 UF) while Harrison Lee was knotted up in the opening game of the final set on court six (7-5, 0-6, 0-0 UF).

JMU is back home on Sunday, March 23 when it hosts #74 Georgia Southern at Hillside Courts. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start.
