CARY, N.C. – James Madison women's tennis senior
Daria Munteanu split in her two single matches at the ITA All-American Championships, held at the Cary Tennis Center on Saturday and Saturday.
In her opening bout Saturday, she dropped a tough decision to Cal's Noami Xu, falling 6-3, 6-3.
Munteanu bounced back in her consolation match, downing Oral Roberts' Miranda Noor in straight sets, at 6-4, 6-3.
"It was a great experience for DJ to play in this tournament, as it has virtually all of the best players in the country competing in the event," Head Coach
Tyson Thomas said. "Succeeding at this level requires a certain level of your game, sound strategy and mental and emotion composure. DJ did a great job working through a few different challenges and closed out her tournament with a win. We will definitely be able to build off of this experience."
Munteanu is JMU women's tennis' first athlete to compete at the ITA All-American Championships. She's the first player on either tennis program to compete at the event since 2022 when Holden Koons and Youssef Sadek of the men's team took part in it.
The Dukes return to action on Oct. 10-12 when they travel to Charlottesville for the annual Wahoowa Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia.
