Quartet of Dukes Compete at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A team of four James Madison men's tennis players faced off against high-level competition at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic (Sept. 25-27), coming away with seven total victories at the Nicolet Tennis Center.

The Dukes competing were Zach Fleishman, Ryan Morgan, Aurelien Schmitt and Ty Wunderlich.

Schmitt paced JMU with a 2-2 singles record while also teaming with Morgan for one doubles victory. He reached the main draw round of 16 before ultimately falling in a super tiebreaker with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.

Fleishman also turned in a 2-2 singles mark while picking up a doubles triumph with Wunderlich. Wunderlich rounded out the wins ledger, as he claimed a consolation match on the final day.

"The guys had a good tournament. We got to play tennis at a higher level against bigger schools, and all of our guys competed well," Assistant Coach Vidit Vaghela said. "Having wins and close matches against guys from Indiana, Purdue, Oregon and others just show that we are going in the right direction. Learning from those matches, we get to work again on Monday to get better."

JMU is back in action on Oct. 3-5 as the full squad travels to Richmond, Va., for the annual River City Tennis Open, hosted by the University of Richmond.
