HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison men's tennis battled for a 5-2 win over Hofstra in Tuesday's home opener at Hillside Courts.
The Dukes (6-6, 1-1 CAA) kept the Pride (5-9, 0-1 CAA) from getting any closer than a point to them in team scoring the entirety of the match and won the final two singles matches to secure the victory.
Freshman
Paul Mendoza tallied match point for JMU at No. 5 singles with a two-set win (7-5, 6-1) over Coco Haener. He went 2-0 on the afternoon, joining with junior
Theophile Lanthiez for a 6-3 triumph at No. 1 doubles over Haener and Niko Vulinovich.
Senior
Brett Moorhead also went 2-0 on the day, contributing to JMU's first and third points of the afternoon. He and
Sebastian Salinas secured the doubles point with a win 7-6(7) at No. 2 doubles after trailing 5-2. The Dukes as a team came back from being down 1-0 to clinch the doubles point 2-1. Moorhead then added a win at No. 4 singles in straight 6-2 sets.

The Dukes were originally scheduled to play again on Wednesday, March 22, but the match has been postponed. JMU will now return to Hillside Courts on Friday, March 24 for a 2 p.m. contest against Delaware in a rescheduled match.
