CHARLESTON, S.C. – James Madison men's tennis went 2-0 against The Citadel on Tuesday, sweeping the Bulldogs 7-0 in the first match of the doubleheader before closing out a 5-2 victory in the second meeting.
The Dukes earned their first shutout victory since the dual season opener, a 5-0 win over Howard at the VCU 4+1 Invitational. JMU sits at 5-5 overall this spring.
Freshman Paul Mendozawent 4-0 on Tuesday, going 2-0 in both singles and doubles. Playing at the No. 4 singles position, he took down W. Jacobus von Zyl (6-2, 6-1) in match one and Matthew Henson (7-6, 6-2) in match two. He also played at the No. 1 doubles position in both meetings, winning alongside junior Theophile Lanthiezin match one and senior Brett Moorhead in match two.
Moorhead also went 4-0 on Tuesday, adding a No. 2 doubles win against Connor Grady and Noah Nawabi in match one. He posted two-set victories at No. 5 singles against Roy Hobson (6-3, 6-2) and Trey Davis (6-3, 6-0).
